Natabua High School intermediate boys high jumper and national rep, George Vokiti who came fourth in the Lautoka Zone is now listed in the Natabua team for the Coca Cola Games.
Natabua coach, Jovesa Naivalu confirms that Natabua gold medalist in the zone, Sekove Finau is injured and Vokiti will take his place.
However according to the Coca Cola Games rules and regulations, any injury will result in the next place getter taking up the vacant spot.
This has been confirmed by Coca Cola Games organizer, Vuli Waqa.
Waqa said the spot does not automatically go to the same school. It goes to the next place getter.
According to the zone and Coke Games rules, only the gold and silver medalists in a zone event qualify for the Coke Games.
Based on this, Natabua High School’s Sekove Finau came in first, Kava Kyle of Saint Thomas High School came in second and Eroni Sing of Tilak High came in third.
When questioned by Fijivillage, Naivalu confirmed that based on the rules, Tilak’s Eroni Sing should take up the vacant spot. However he says he cannot make any further comments as the zone officials have already discussed the matter with Vuli Waqa.
Waqa said the rule stands and it cannot be changed.
This means Natabua High School’s George Vokiti is not eligible to take part in this year’s Coke Games. We will have more later today.
The Coca Cola Games will be held this Friday and Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
