Waratahs coach Michael Cheika has confirmed that the Australian Rugby Union has offered him the Wallabies coaching position after Ewen McKenzie’s fallout.
Cheika said that some details need to be ironed out before a deal is struck.
The ARU is keen to appoint a coach before the Wallabies leave on Friday for their Europe tour.
ARU CEO Bill Pulver said they’ll consider a caretaker coach for the tour if they can’t make a permanent appointment in time.
Cheika is lining up Stephen Larkham as his Wallabies assistant coach with Michael Foley to work with the forwards.
