Romulo Monterio opened the scoring in the 38th minute for Brazil.
Mexico advanced to the final for the first time in their history this morning after coming from behind to defeat Asian giants Japan 3-1 in their semifinal match.
The Mexicans dominated play and missed some golden scoring opportunities while Japan had themselves to blame for their disorganized defense.
In athletics, Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt cruised to victory in his 200 metres heats last night with a time of 20.39 seconds.
Bolt has said he needs to win the 200 metres gold again before he achieves his aim of becoming a ‘legend’.
Bolt will feature in the second semifinal of the 200 metres at 7:10am tomorrow while Yohan Blake will run in the first semifinal.
The final of the 200 metres will be held at 7:55am Friday.
In women's Volleyball, USA have beaten Dominican republic three sets to nil in their quarter final match this morning.
Brazil and Japan have booked their semifinal berths after winning their quarterfinal matches.
In Basketball, the quarterfinals of the Mens Basketball have been confirmed.
Russia will play Lithuania at 1am tomorrow in the first quarterfinal while France will play Spain at 3.15am.
Brazil will play Argentina at 7am tomorrow while defending champion, USA will meet Australia at 9.15am in the last quarterfinal.
The semifinals will be played on Saturday with the final to be played on Monday.
China is still leading the medal tally with 34 gold, 21 silver and 17 bronze, USA is second with 30 gold, 16 silver and 20 bronze while Great Britain is third with 22 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze.
