Highlanders coach Aaron Mauger is proud of the performance and result his men earned in last night's win over the Blues after what he described was a "challenging" stretch of losses.
The Highlanders ended their five‑match losing streak with the 24‑12 win in Dunedin last night to keep their season alive.
Before beating the Blues, the Highlanders' last win came back in round two when they beat the Reds. After that, they suffered four straight close losses before being outclassed by the Crusaders in Christchurch last week.
But Mauger believes last night's win shows the Highlanders are right in the mix.
The Highlanders will look to make it two in a row in Tokyo next week when they take on the Sunwolves on Friday.
At the end of round 10 of the Super Rugby competition, defending champions, the Crusaders are leading with 34 points, in second place are the Rebels with 24 points, the Bulls are in third place with 23 points, in fourth place are the Hurricanes with 27 points while the Lions are in fifth place with 22 points.
Meanwhile, on Friday the Crusaders will take on the Lions at 7.35pm while the Sunwolves will host the Highlanders at 10 pm.
On Saturday the Hurricanes will meet the Chiefs at 7.35pm and the Waratahs will face the Sharks at 9.45pm.
Next Sunday the Stormers will take on the Bulls at 1.05am while the Jaguares play the Brumbies at 9.40am.
