The Army rugby team has won the 2019 ANZ Ratu Sukuna Bowl rugby competition after defeating Police 20-17 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva this afternoon.
Army was off to a good start, putting pressure on the defending champions making them commit a lot of errors in the first half.
The first points of the match was from a penalty conversion from Army fullback Jeke Suguturaga, followed by two tries from Vesi Rarawa and Levani Kurumudu.
Army led Police 17-3 in the first half.
Police started off the second half strong scoring two tries through Sireli Kaloucava and Ratu Inoke Ravuiwasa to close the gap 20-17.
Army extended their lead from the boot of first-five eighth, Jone Manu.
Both teams got a yellow card each through Jone Navori of Police and Vesi Rarawa of Army.
Army Captain, Sireli Ledua says that they dedicate their win to their families who have been supporting them during their 5 weeks of preparation.
Ledua says their main focus coming into this match was to win it and take back the prestigious Tanoa to Queen Elizabeth Barracks.
He adds this win is also dedicated to their brothers and sisters who are serving in overseas.
Army Development side also defeated Police Development side 15-13.
