Ma’a Nonu has been invested as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to rugby.
Nonu told stuff.co that it was one of the proudest days of his life and rates right beside his two Rugby World Cup titles from 2011 and 2015.
He says he was saying to the recipients that he was more nervous doing this than running out of the tunnel in the black jersey.
Nonu was recognised for his rugby career, which includes 13 years with the All Blacks, 13 Super Rugby seasons between the Hurricanes, Blues and Highlanders, captaincy with the Wellington Lions and stints with the Ricoh Black Lambs in Japan and Toulon in France.
Nonu played for the Blues this year and was an outside chance for selection for a third World Cup, but missed out. He said he's enjoyed the freedom and time with the family ‑ dropping the kids off at school and spending as much as time as he can with them.
It's a short holiday before he announces his playing future.
The veteran also says that he had no advice to offer ahead of their first pool match against South Africa tomorrow because he is confident in his former team.
