Xavier College star athlete Shawntell Lockington is already eyeing gold in the subjunior girl’s high jump in next week’s Coca-Cola Games.
Lockington, who won gold and set a new record of 1.53 metres in the same event last year, is aiming to break her own record next week.
Guided and trained by former national high jump representative Rosalia Raqato, the 15-year-old is looking to improve from last year.
She set a national record last month in the Ba Zone with a jump of 1.60 metres.
Lockington is expected to face tough competition from Keleti Tikotani of Suva Grammar School and Esther Reece of Natabua High School.
Last year, four of Xavier’s gold medals came from the field which they will be banking on again next weekend.
The Coca-Cola Games will be held next week Friday and Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
