A couple of weeks ago Ben Alexander must have been tempted to lift referee Bryce Lawrence off his toes with a sharp uppercut.
Now, ahead of Sunday night’s World Cup quarterfinal against the Springboks at the Wellington Regional Stadium, Alexander was today struggling to prevent himself from wrapping his green and gold arms around the Kiwi whistler.
When Ireland stunned the Wallabies 15-6 in their World Cup pool match at Eden Park on September 17, Lawrence caned the Aussies in the scrums as their front row repeatedly folded under pressure and the looks on the Wallabies forwards’ faces said it all.
In the quarterfinals this weekend, Ireland will play Wales in Wellington on Saturday at 5pm. France will play England at Eden Park on Saturday at 7.30pm.
Australia will play South Africa in Wellington on Sunday at 5pm and the All Blacks will face Argentina at Eden Park on Sunday night at 7.30pm.
You can catch the live commentaries of both games - the All Blacks/Argentina and South Africa/Australia game on Sunday, on our sister station, Viti FM with the voice of rugby, Malakai Veisamasama and expert comments from Ilivasi Tabua.
