Fiji surfer Ratu Aca Ravulo Lalabalavu gave defending champion of the Volcom Fiji Pro Kelly Slater a run for his money during their heat at Tavarua Island today.
Lalabalavu almost beat Slater in the first round after scoring 18-20 but did not have enough points in the second round to advance to the next heat.
The 29 year old said even though he lost he is happy.
Lalabalavu walks away with $US8, 000 prize money.
