A strong 13 men Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team for the Dubai 7s has been named by Coach Gareth Baber with Kavekini Tabu set to make his debut.
The side will be captained by Paula Dranisinukula this weekend and includes some extremely experienced players.
25-year-old old Tabu is one of three brothers in the Fiji Men’s National 7s team and will play alongside siblings Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Isoa Tabu when he takes to the field tomorrow.
Speaking from Dubai, Coach Gareth Baber says he wants debutant Kavekini Tabu to pick up all the value around him and further develop as an individual and a rugby player.
Baber says Tabu can go and show everyone his true potential.
The 13th player is Napolioni Bolaca.
The rest of the players selected by Baber are Josua Vakurunabili, Meli Derenalagi, Vilimoni Botitu, Waisea Nacuqu, Jerry Tuwai, Alasio Naduva, Aminiasi Tuimaba, and Terio Tamani.
Fiji’s first pool match is against Japan at 4.02am tomorrow and they will take on Argentina in their second pool match at 10.04pm tomorrow. Fiji will face France in their last pool match at 4.02am on Saturday.
The quarterfinals will be held at 8.14pm this Saturday, the semifinals will be at 12am Sunday while the final will be at 4.02am this Sunday.
Barring any upsets, Fiji is likely to meet South Africa, England or Kenya in the quarter-final, they can face South Africa or France in the semi-final and is likely to meet New Zealand or the USA in the final of the Dubai 7s.
