Fiji Airways Men's National 7s Team playmaker Jerry Tuwai will be hoping to become only the second Fiji 7s player to win the World Rugby Men’s Sevens Player of the Year award tonight.
Tuwai is regarded as one of the best 7s players and gets his third straight nomination.
For the past two years, Tuwai has lost to USA's Perry Baker.
Since the awards began in 2004, only Samisoni Viriviri has won the award for Fiji.
Tuwai was instrumental last season as he helped Fiji win the HSBC World Sevens Series.
Tuwai scored 24 tries last season.
He has been nominated alongside USA duo Stephen Tomasin and Folau Niua.
Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Ruby Tui, Sarah Hirini and Tyla Nathan-Wong have been nominated for the Women’s 7s Player of the Year Award.
Looking at other awards, South Africa's Pieter-Steph du Toit and Cheslin Kolbe, England flanker Tom Curry, New Zealand's loose forward Ardie Savea, Wales flanker Alun Wyn Jones and USA hooker Joe Taufete'e have been nominated for the World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year award.
Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus, England coach Eddie Jones, Japanese coach Jamie Joseph, All Blacks coach Steve Hansen and Wales coach Warren Gatland have been nominated for World Rugby Coach of the Year award.
England, Japan, All Blacks, Wales, and South Africa have also been nominated for World Rugby Team of the Year 2019.
The World Rugby Awards will start at around 8 tonight in Tokyo.
