Fiji’s pool opponents in the Wellington 7s, Japan has vowed to be consistent in the tournament next weekend under the leadership of their new coach Damian Karauna.

The Japanese have lost all 10 matches across the opening legs in Dubai and Cape Town and the new coach has demanded improvement from his players.

The 41‑year‑old New Zealander who was assistant and skills coach with the All Blacks Sevens team from 2012 to 2016 says the plan is give a new group of players much needed experience on the HSBC World Sevens Series.

He says Japan is a team with a lot of potential after beating top sides like New Zealand, Kenya and France before losing to South Africa in the bronze‑medal play‑off at the Rio Olympics.

The Vodafone Fiji 7s team is pooled with Japan, South Africa and Australia.

The Fiji 7s team to the Wellington 7s will be announced later this week.

Fiji will play Australia in their first pool match at 10.46am next Saturday before facing Japan at 2.10pm.

Their last pool match will be against South Africa at 6.18pm next Saturday.

The medal quarterfinals will begin at 11.38am next Sunday while the semifinals will begin at 4.16pm.

The medal final for the Wellington 7s will be held at 7.30pm next Sunday.
