IRB to review Pacific Island rugby

The International Rugby Board will do a review of the three Pacific Islands team performance in the Rugby World Cup next month.

IRB Regional General Manager for Oceania, Will Glenwright said the process will start with the Unions in November.

Glenwright added that it has to be a thorough review to identify what worked and what didn’t work and the lessons learnt have to be reflected in the next phase of the High Performance plans for each country.

He said that it was disappointing that none of the Pacific Islands team qualified for the quarterfinals but there are plenty of indicators from the Pool phase that Tonga and Samoa are closing the gap and they have to work even smarter to ensure that they meet the ongoing objective of having Pacific Islands teams qualify for the knockout stage of Rugby World Cup.

According to Glenwright, out of the 3 teams - the Flying Fijians were the most disappointing after reaching the quarterfinal in 2007 and failing to deliver in NZ and now need to qualify for the 2015 RWC.
