Former rugby league winger and Fiji Airways Men’s 7s utility back Eroni Sau was on the verge of giving up his dream in 2013 when he was dropped from the national sevens squad.
Fast forward to 2017, Sau stormed his way through the Australian National Rugby Championship with an outstanding performance for the Drua and this was enough as well to convince coach Gareth Baber for a spot in the national side.
Sau was part of the Fiji Residents team that played in the Battle of the Bati in the lead up to the 2013 Rugby League World Cup but failed to find a spot in the 13 men game.
He continued to persevere and felt that he needs to sacrifice his time to train, focus on rugby union and learn as much as he can in order to become the best.
Sau regained his momentum after joining the Fiji Police Force in 2014 where he featured for the Police 7s team and was also picked to play in the Suva 15s team in the Skipper Cup and HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge.
Coach Gareth Baber says Sau brings in a lot of aggressiveness in the team with his bone-crunching tackles and the ability to break through defense.
Sau is expected to make his debut at rover and will be competing for this spot with Kalione Nasoko and John Stewart.
Fiji is pooled with Russia, Wales and Australia.
The Dubai 7s will be held from the 1st to the 3rd of next month.
