Former All Blacks Sevens player Warwick Lahmert has signed a contract with the England 7s team.
Lahmert has been included in the England squad and hopes to play in the Wellington and Las Vegas tournament.
The former Taranaki playmaker played five tournaments for New Zealand in the 2012 and 2013 World Sevens Series before dropping out of the squad.
England coach Simon Amor said Lahmert has developed as a player and has the qualities he is looking for.
Amor added that Lahmert is half‑English which made his selection easier and a possible spot at next year's Olympic Games in Rio.
Some players that are expected to make the final 12 English side are Dan Bibby, Sam Blanchet, Tom Bowen, John Brake, Phil Burgess, Alex Gray, Charlie Hayter, Christian Lewis‑Pratt, captain Tom Mitchell and Dan Norton.
England is pooled with New Zealand, Canada and Papua New Guinea in the New Zealand 7s which will be held next Friday and Saturday.
