The Fiji Airways Fijiana is a step closer to taking part in the 2023 Women’s Rugby World Cup after defeating Manusia Samoa 26-7 in the Oceania Women’s XVs Championship.
Fiji's tries came from Lavenia Tinai, Pricilla Siata, Mela Matanabau, and Ada Dansey.
Both teams were locked 7-all at half time.
Samoa's only try came from a loose ball from Fiji which was picked up by Apaau Mailau who ran 50 metres down the field with support play.
Fijiana coach, Alivereti Doviverata says their main aim was a win and the players delivered.
He says the players executed their game plan well which got them the win they wanted.
The Fijiana team is on a bye next Tuesday as the Tongan team has pulled out of the competition due to the suspected measles case.
Fiji will play either PNG or Samoa in the final next Saturday.
The winner next Saturday earns a qualification to the 2023 Women’s Rugby World Cup in France.
