Fijian swimmers struggled to keep up on day one of the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships at the Damodar Aquatic Centre today.
In the women’s 200 metre freestyle heats, Fijian swimmers Rosemarie Rova, Rokowati Mara, Aimee Elaisa, Joan McGowan and Evitah Yee all failed to qualify for the final.
It was the same story in the men’s 200 metre freestyle heats with Fiji’s Mosese Bobi, Wilson Erasito, James Kado, Jayzon Requina, Rhys Cheer, Jere Faktau-fon and Tolu Young all failing to qualify for the next round.
Eight Fijian swimmers were also listed to take part in the Women’s 100 metre backstroke and they did not prove competitive enough to qualify for the next round.
However, Angela Tremain and Jodie Puamau of Fiji have been listed as alternates in the Women’s 100 metre backstroke.
This means if a finalist cannot participate, they will be called to take their place.
In the men’s 100 backstroke, Netani Ross was the Fijian swimmer with the fastest time and he has also been listed as an alternate for the final.
Claire Tuggle, of USA will be the favourite to win the Women’s 200 metres free style final after she recorded the fastest time in the preliminaries earlier this morning.
In the Men’s final Drew Kibler of USA will be the favourite to win the 200 metres free style event after clocking the fastest time of 1 minute 48.37 seconds in the preliminaries.
