The Telecom Fiji Warriors hammered Samoa A 34‑ 6 in their opening match of the World Rugby Pacific Challenge last night at the ANZ Stadium.
Warriors halfback, Serupepeli Vularika led the charge in the first half as he kicked a penalty and crossed over for the first try.
Vularika kicked another penalty with a minute before half time.
World Rugby also introduced the new trialled points system valuing a try at six points and a conversion, penalty and drop goal at two. The penalty try is an automatic 8 points with a conversion.
Fiji led Samoa A 12‑6 at half time as they utilize their fast pace backline.
They continued their momentum in the second half when Henry Seniloli scored a try and two successful conversion by Vularika.
Former Ratu Navula College flanker Vasikali Mudu scored their third try to extend their lead.
Fiji was awarded a penalty try in the 75th minute where earned another eight points.
Captain, Peni Ravai says the victory is dedicated to those who have been affected by the Cyclone Winston as this can put a smile on their face.
Ravai says they need to work on their set plays and restart before they face Junior Japan at 6pm Saturday.
Samoa A will face Tonga at 3.30pm Saturday.
Meanwhile, World Rugby has highlighted a number of proposed laws that will be trialed on a temporary basis and they could change the game as we currently know it.
The points system proposal would award 6 points for a try and 2 points for a drop goal and penalty.
This is all about attacking while the penalty try will have 8 points.
The mauls must start moving forward within five seconds or a scrum will be ordered.
The hooker may signal to his scrum half that he is ready to receive the ball in the scrum.
Wheeling the scrum by the defending team will be discouraged with awarding of the new scrum from where it ended.
