The Fiji Sports Commission has presented a $225,000 cheque to the Fiji Basketball Association to fund the FIBA Under 19 Oceania Champions next week.

While presenting the cheque, Fiji Sports Commission chairman Peter Mazey said this is the commission and government’s direction in sports diplomacy.

Mazey added that they are working closely with the government in trying to get international tournaments to Fiji and are ready to provide assistance.

He also thanked the Prime Minister’s Office who gave $160,000 on the tournament.

While receiving the cheque, Fiji Basketball President Iowane Naivalurua says without the fund, the hosting of the tournament would not been possible.

Naivalurua is encouraging everyone to come up in numbers at the Vodafone Arena next Monday to support the national Under 19 side and also witness other teams from overseas.

The tournament will start next Monday at the Vodafone Arena with free admission on children under 16 years old and $3 for adults.
