The Fiji Barbarians will return home empty handed after losing out in the Punta del Este 7s tournament in Uruguay.

The Iliesa Tanivula coached side first lost 14-21 to Buenos Aires in the Cup quarterfinal and later were defeated by a combined Argentine and Uruguayan side Wolves Moby Dick by 19-7 in the Plate semifinal which was later won by Tonga.

Meanwhile, Samoa overcame another IRB 7s World Series regular Argentina to retain the Punta del Este 7s crown last night.

They won the Cup final by 34-14.

The win also kick starts their preparation ahead of the next two IRB 7s World Series in Wellington and San Diego next month, as well as the Rugby World Cup 7s in Dubai in March.

Samoa's attentions now turn to next month's Wellington 7s where they will line up against Fiji, USA and Cook Islands in Pool D of day one on the 6th of February.
