The Fiji Athletics team to the Pacific Games finished with 10 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Banuve Tabakaucoro won gold in the 100 and 200 metres race while he anchored the 4x100 metres Men’s relay team.
The Women’s 4x100 metres relay team also won gold.
Avikash Lal won gold for Fiji in the Men’s Half Marathon, Eugene Vollmer won gold in the Men’s Triple Jump.
Mustafa Falls took gold in the Men’s Shot Put event, Elenani Tinai was the winner in the Women’s Heptathlon event.
Xavier College student, Shawntell Lockington won gold in the Women’s High Jump while Naibili Vatunisolo won gold in the Women’s Shot Put Ambulant event.
Meanwhile, Team Fiji to the Pacific Games finished in fifth place.
The team had 35 gold, 38 silver, 43 bronze.
Compared to the 2015 Pacific Games, Fiji improved its gold medal tally from 33 to 35 however they moved from fourth to fifth place.
New Caledonia finished in first place with 76 gold, 55 silver and 51 bronze, Papua New Guinea finished in second place with 38 gold, 57 silver and 35 bronze, Samoa was third with 38 gold, 42 silver and 45 bronze while Tahiti was fourth with 35 gold, 39 silver and 45 bronze.
The 2023 Games will be held in Solomon Islands.
