Expect improvements in Fiji soccer from next year

Soccer fans are now hoping to see an improvement in the standard of soccer from next year after some big decisions were made by the new look Fiji Football Association Administration, headed by businessman Rajesh Patel.

Fans did not see much from our National Soccer team in this year’s Pacific Games after going down to Solomon’s in the semi-finals.

Fiji soccer always had a tradition of firing National Coaches after a short span of their appointments and Argentine, Claudio Canosa was the latest who got the boot before the Pacific games.

But, this will change as the new Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel wants the national coach to at least serve more than two years.

The Fiji soccer team is currently ranked 158th out of the 204 teams and major changes have not taken place in Fiji’s ranking for the last five years due to lack of or no international matches.

Acting President, Sheik Ibrahim said some decisions like playing ninety minutes soccer from next year together with the introduction of Under 21 league will improve the standard of soccer in the country.
