The Rugby World Cup 7s new format has shown that every game counts and teams will have to win every match in order to be crowned the World Cup winner.
Unlike any ordinary 7s tournament in the World Sevens Series, the Rugby World Cup 7s will not follow the pool format where if you lose a game, you can still make the eliminations and possibly go on to win the final.
The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team will only play one elimination game and go straight into the cup quarterfinals.
Fiji’s elimination match will be against either Japan or Uruguay on the 21st of this month at 3.53pm.
Barring any upsets, they will either meet Argentina or Canada in Cup quarterfinals at 10.54am Sunday the 22nd of this month, they will either meet Australia or New Zealand in the cup semifinals at 8.02am Monday the 23rd of this month and will either meet South Africa, England or USA in the final at 12.49pm Monday the 23rd of this month.
The innovative tournament format will see an initial knock‑out preliminary round featuring the nations ranked ninth to 24th, while the top eight seeds from the series progress automatically to the round of 16.
The women’s teams will be the first to take to the pitch at the AT&T Park as the Fiji Airways Women’s 7s team face Spain in the first match of the tournament on 21st July.
Meanwhile the Men’s 7s team has arrived safely in Utah and was greeted by a number of Fijian fans at the Airport and have now continued with their preparations.
They will undergo several scrimmage session against the US Army and Tongan team.
