The Fiji Special Olympic Team’s preparation for the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi has been boosted with the announcement of the $100,000 cash sponsorship from Digicel today.
While signing the official sponsorship agreement Digicel Fiji CEO Mike Greig says this is an on‑going partnership which stretches years back to support Special Olympics Fiji in major events and now they are stepping up to support the team to attend the world meet.
Special Olympics Team Fiji will send its largest contingent to the world meet with 21 athletes in five sports, supported by 14 strong volunteer team of managers and support staff.
Greig adds that Special Olympics is close to their Founder, Chairman and Interim CEO Denis O’Brien’s heart and they are very happy to be given the opportunity by Team Fiji to partner with them in their quest.
He adds that it is an honor to see first hand the hard work, dedication and determination and the qualities which make this athletes inspirational role models and ambassadors for Fiji.
Team Fiji will be joining over 7,000 athletes from more than 170 countries at the games, which will run for a week from March 14‑21.
Special Olympics Fiji Chairman Bishwa Sidal expressed appreciation at the huge support by Digicel Fiji to support Team Fiji to Abu Dhabi.
This year Team Fiji is taking a team of 35, competing in athletics, swimming, open water swim, table tennis and women’s 5‑a‑side football.”
They will leave for Abu Dhabi in the first week of March.
