Cross Counter to overcome 6.5kg weight rise to be first dual Cup winner from northern hemisphere

Last year's Melbourne Cup winner Cross Counter will bid to rewrite the record books at the Flemington Racecourse this afternoon.

Cross Counter will have to overcome a 6.5kg weight rise to become the first dual Cup winner from the northern hemisphere.

The other horses to look out for are Mer De Glace, Finche, Constantinople and Master Of Reality.

8 million Australian dollars is up for grabs today. 

The Australian horses to look out for are Vow And Declare, Surprise Baby and Youngstar.

Twenty-four horses have been confirmed for todays's Melbourne Cup.

This will be the 158th running of the Melbourne Cup. 

The Melbourne Cup will start 4 o'clock this afternoon at the Flemington Racecourse in Australia.
