Bulikiobo Qualifies for World Athletics Championships

Makelesi Bulikiobo has once again lifted the bar to a new level, when she qualified for two individual events for the next World Athletics Championships.

With her Europe Preparation and Beijing Olympic Performances, Makelesi has qualified to represent Fiji in both the 200 and 400 metres events in Berlin in August 2009.

This is the first time ever that an athlete from the Pacific Islands has qualified to represent their country in two events.

Makelesi set new National and Pacific island records in Europe in July, in the 200m with a time of 23.22 seconds, which is better than the qualifying standard of 23.30 seconds.

In the 400 metres, Makelesi ran a superb time of 52.24 seconds, which again was better than the World Championships qualifying standard of 52.30 seconds.
