Blues first‑five Bryn Gatland will leave the Super Rugby club having signed for the Highlanders on a two‑year deal.
Lima Sopoaga is leaving the Highlanders at the end of the current season for English side Wasps and the Highlanders have signed 22-year-old Gatland to replace the outgoing All Black.
Gatland impressed for the Blues at the beginning of the 2018 season, starting the side's first few games, before finding himself relegated out of the playing side in favour of Stephen Perofeta.
Gatland will be joined by Fijian winger Tevita Nabura who is now a fully contracted player for the Highlanders.
The Blues face the Hurricanes in the opening match of Round 13 of the Super Rugby competition at 7.35pm Friday.
