Justin Gatlin has beaten Olympic champion Usain Bolt by one hundredth of a second to record a surprise 100meters win in Rome.
Bolt was the fastest out of the blocks at the Diamond League meeting but American Gatlin powered past the Jamaican to win in 9.94 seconds.
Bolt made light of the defeat, and says he stumbled a bit after five steps which cost him the run.
Last month, Bolt suffered a minor hamstring injury earlier in the season and run just 10.09 in a 100m in the Cayman Islands.
Gatlin, the Olympic bronze medallist says it feels good to beat the world champion.
