One of the most successful trainers in Melbourne Cup history, Bart Cummings will be hoping that Precedence will be able to book a spot in the Melbourne Cup next week.
Cummings last won the Melbourne Cup in 2008 and has won the title 12 times as a trainer.
Precedence is aiming to compete in his fourth Melbourne Cup, but those plans are problematic after the nine-year-old stayer was beaten during the Mooneey Valley Cup.
Co-trainer James Cummings said they are confident the veteran stayer will be fit to take his place in the Cup.
No nine-year-old horse has won the Melbourne Cup.
The Melbourne Cup is scheduled for next Tuesday.
