Australian tour helps Fiji U20 soccer team

Vodafone Fiji U‑20 soccer team assistant coach Shalendra Lal believes the team’s Australian tour has provided a perfect warm-up for the OFC President’s Cup which kickoffs tonight.

Lal said the team's long term goal is to get positive results, come their debut appearance in next year's FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, and the President's Cup is one step in that journey.

The side played three matches against Sydney‑based teams including an Australia Fiji All Stars squad, the West Sydney Wanderers youth side and an Academy team ‑ recording two wins and a draw.

Lal said the team is improving on their technical abilities and this competition will allow them to identify areas requiring further improvement which is important.

The Vodafone Fiji U20 soccer team open their OFC President's Cup campaign against Amicale FC of Vanuatu at 7.30pm and Bahrain club Busaiteen on Friday at 7.30pm in their last pool match.
