Fiji’s Hong Kong 7s pool opponents, Australia have been tasked to work hard this weekend as players make a last‑ditch bid to feature in rugby sevens at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Australian captain Lewis Holland has declared that current players are “never safe” as interest in the World Sevens Series from Wallabies 15‑a‑side players heats up.
While they are not comfortable sitting sixth on the overall standings, they will be rolling their sleeves up and giving a better account of themselves in Hong Kong than in any previous outings.
Israel Folau has spoken about being tempted to try and play at the next Olympics while former Wallaby Rod Davies has already been added to the program.
Fiji will take on Kenya at 11.37pm Friday in their first pool match of the Hong Kong 7s, they will then take on Australia at 5.13pm Saturday and play their final pool match against New Zealand at 8.55pm Saturday.
The Cup quarterfinals will start at 2.58pm Sunday, Cup semifinals start at 7.41pm Sunday while the Cup final is at 11pm Sunday.
Barring any upsets Fiji could face France or Argentina in the quarterfinals, South Africa or England in the semifinal and New Zealand or USA in the final.
