Marcos Rojo is the hero for Argentina as his 86th minute winning goal against Nigeria has taken them to the round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup.

Argentina beat Nigeria 2-1.

Superstar Lionel Messi scored the first goal in the 14th minute, before Nigeria’s Victor Moses equalised through a penalty in the 51st minute.

Argentina were on the brink of elimination as a draw would have seen Argentina go out.

They were also helped by Croatia’s 2-1 victory over Iceland.

Croatia and Argentina have qualified for the round of 16.

Argentina will play France while Croatia will play Denmark.

Meanwhile, Australia lost their last Group C match 2-0 against Peru and are now out of the FIFA World Cup.

Watch highlight: Australia vs Peru

Australia needed to beat Peru who were already out of the World Cup and hope that France beat Denmark in order for Australia to qualify for the knockout stages.

This was Peru’s first win in the World Cup since 1978.

In another match France and Denmark played out the first nil all draw at this World Cup.

They are both through to the knockout stages.
