A South African rugby critic has blasted World Rugby for not citing All Blacks captain Kieran Read for a clear professional foul around the neck in Saturday night's victory over the Springboks.

Brenden Nel, a longtime South African rugby writer with almost 14,000 Twitter followers, tweeted a video of the incident in the 45th minute of the Pool B Rugby World Cup game in Yokohama.

It showed Read, at a lineout, appearing to grab Springbok flanker Pieter‑Steph du Toit, who was not in possession of the ball, around the neck.

According to the South African rugby writer, Kieran Read should've been cited for a lineout infringement.

Nel wrote on Twitter - "Wonder what @allblacks say about this?,"

He further says it is clear professional foul, around the neck, nowhere near the ball and questioned whether world rugby will do anything. He claims they will just probably bury their heads in the sands as it's their all blacks after all.

No action was taken by the match officials and Read has not been cited.

World Rugby regulations requiring citings to be made within 24 hours of a match.

Meanwhile, a Twitter follower, Regan Stephens, suggested highlighting Read's incident was selective with the Springboks also guilty of indiscretions.

A New Zealander Julian Smith referred to Springbok wing Makazole Mapimpi escaping a sanction for denying the All Blacks a try by refusing to roll away from a tackle.
