78th Courts Inter-District Championship kicks off today

Last year's IDC winners Ba in action against Nadi.

The 78th Courts Inter-District Championship kicks off today at the ANZ Stadium and eight Premier teams will battle it out for the prestigious trophy and an attractive $20,000 prize money.

After winning the Inkk Mobile BOG just over a month ago, Lautoka will start as one of the top favorites and the side has also been boosted with the inclusion of players like Samuela Drudru, Shameel Rao and goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara.

Lautoka last won IDC in 2008 beating Ba 1-nil in the final.

Nadi who won Fiji Fact earlier this year is also rated highly and the lethal strike-force combination of Rusiate Matarerega and Napolioni Qasevakatini should do wonders for the team.

Rewa, Labasa and Suva also have a number of household names and have equal chances of lifting the prestigious title.

When it comes to IDC, no one should rule out 24 time champions, Ba and although they did not have a good season, the Men in Black has got a formidable side that can be the last team standing come Monday afternoon.

The 2016 Courts IDC will start at 1pm today at the ANZ Stadium and you can catch the live commentaries of the Nadroga Lautoka, Ba Rewa and Suva Labasa matches on Radio Sargam on 103.4FM.
