Young Chiefs hooker and former All Blacks Under 20 star, Liam Polwart has announced that he is retiring from rugby to preserve his health following an ongoing issues with concussion.
The 24-year-old, announced this morning that he would not take part in next year's Super Rugby season after deciding it wasn't worth the risk.
Polwart says that leaving the game he loves was a difficult decision which has provided him some awesome experiences.
He says due to the on-going issues with concussion, and since he is still symptom free, he has chosen to hang up his boots so that it does not put himself in any further risk.
Polwart has played 26 games for the Chiefs since his 2017 debut along with 15 Mitre 10 Cup games for the Bay of Plenty.
He was also a member of the 2015 All Blacks Under 20s team that won the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Italy where he started at hooker in the final against England.
