Around 1,000 students from 21 schools in Suva have stared their Kaji ruby campaign today with the launch of the 2018 Vodafone Kaji Cup and Suva Kaji Rugby competition at St Marcellin Primary School.
Fiji Kaji Rugby President Owen Ratumaikoro who is also the Suva Games Coordinator says that the competition will be going on for 10 weeks before the Suva teams are selected for the District and then the National Kaji Competition.
Ratu-mai-koro says in the 11th week of the current school term, the Suva teams that have topped their grades will be going against qualifiers from Nasinu and Tailevu in order to go up to the Nationals which will be held during the August holidays at the ANZ Stadium.
He says the highlight of the launch was the presence of the prestigious William Webb Ellis Trophy and 7's heros Eroni Sau and Alasio Naduva who was mingling with the players.
Starting off today’s tournament, Veiuto Primary School Under 13 grade defeated Dudley Intermediate School 19-5.
In the other Under 13 Grade, Vatuwaqa Primary defeated Holy Trinity Primary School 10-0 and Assemblies of God defeated John Wesley Primary 10-5.
In the under 9 Grade, Holy Trinity Anglican School Drew with Assemblies of God Primary school at Nil all and Veiuto Defeated Vatuwaqa Primary School 19-0.
In the Under 10 Grade, Stella Marist Primary School drew with Assemblies of God at 14-14 while Dudley Intermediate drew with Vatuwaqa Primary School 0-0 while Saint Marcellin Primary School drew with Holy Trinity 7-7.
In the Under 11 Grade,Neru Memorial Primary School defeat Gospel Primary 19-0, John Wesley Primary beat St Marcellin Primary 7-0, Saint Agnes drew with Holy Trinity 7-7 and Veiuto Primary defeated Vatuwaqa Primary 14-7.
In the Under 12 Grade, Samabula Primary School drew with Indhraghandi Memorial Primary School 0-0, Saint Marcellin Primary School defeated Holy Trinity Anglican School 14-7 while Gospel Primary beat Saint Agnes Primary School 7-0.
The Under 14 grade saw Holy Trinity beat Gospel Primary 24-0 while John Wesley Primary Drew with Saint Marcellin Primary 5-5.
