Queen Victoria School sprinter Ilaitia Waqa has qualified for the senior boys 100m final clocking the fastest time during the heats.
Waqa clocked a manual time of 10.98 seconds during his heat.
Marist Brothers High School sprinter Albert Miller who was in the same heat finished third.
Meanwhile, Keasi Naidroka of Marist qualified for the 100m intermediate boys final.
Naidroka clocked the fastest time of 10.78 seconds.
In the senior girls, Alaiwalu Rayawa of ACS clocked the fastest time of 12.46 seconds to qualify for the finals.
Saint Joseph’s Secondary School athlete, Heleina Young cruised through her 100 metres Junior Girls heat.
Young finished the race in a manual time of 13.17 seconds.
She will face stiff competition from Jasper Williams High School athlete, Salote Baravilala who clocked the fastest time during the heats.
Baravilala ran a time of 12.84 seconds in her heat.
The 400 metres heats will start at 6.15 tonight.
Eight gold medals are at stake in the field events tonight.
