Counties Manukau 18‑year‑old Etene Nanai‑Seturo is set to make his New Zealand Sevens debut in Sydney this weekend, while Luke Masirewa returns after a five‑year absence.
Caleb Clarke – son of former All Black Eroni Clarke – has been named as the 13th man and will be brought into the playing 12 if required as injury cover for the tournament, which starts tomorrow.
18-year-olds Nanai-Seturo, a former age‑grade rugby league standout and Clarke were schoolboy rugby union rivals in Auckland.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Masirewa last appeared on the Sevens Series circuit in 2013.
New Zealand is pooled with the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team, Russia and Samoa.
Fiji will play their first game against Samoa at 8.28pm tomorrow, then Russia in their second game at 5.09pm this Saturday before taking on New Zealand at 8.42pm this Saturday.
The quarterfinals will start at 12.28pm this Sunday, the semifinals are at 6.36pm while the final will kick off at 9.48pm.
In the Women’s competition, the Fijiana will be playing their first game against defending champion Canada at 11.22am tomorrow.
