12 schools compete at Lautoka Zone today in new-look Churchill Park

The moment that many in the West have been waiting for is here as 12 schools will be competing on the new Churchill Park synthetic track for the first time at the Lautoka Zone meet today.

The 12 schools participating in the Lautoka Athletics Zone have marched out in the last hour, as part of the opening ceremony at the newly renovated Churchill Park.

Our reporter on the ground, Rusiate Baleilevuka has confirmed that following the march, the 1,500 metres event will take place.

Baleilevuka says that the events are expected to begin from this hour.

Lautoka Secondary School Athletics Association President Jupendra Narayan says there has been a lot of excitement since the Prime Minister opened the stadium on Tuesday.

Two new schools have joined the Lautoka Zone this year that is Yasawa High School who used to be in the Maritime Zone and Magodro Junior Secondary School from Bukuya, Ba.

Jasper Williams High School and Natabua High School are the Lautoka Zone defending champions for the Girls and Boys division respectively.

The competition will end tomorrow.

Meanwhile Adi Cakobau School and Lelean Memorial School have retained their titles at the Triple N Zone at the ANZ Stadium.

ACS won the Girls Division with 41 gold, 29 silver and 6 bronze while Lomaivuna High School finished second with 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze.

Lelean Memorial School finished third in the Girls Division with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

In the Boys Division, Lelean won with 23 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze while Lomaivuna High School finished second with 6 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze.

Naitasiri Secondary School finished third in the Boys Division with 6 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze.
