Wallabies Flanker, Sean McMahon will add power to the Australian Men’s 7s side as he’s been cleared by his Japanese Top League club, the Suntory Sungoliath, to play for the Aussie Men’s 7s Team in the Cape Town 7s this week.
Rugby Australia and McMahon’s Japanese club have struck a deal that will see him join Tim Walsh’s Australian team for the second leg of the HSBC World 7s Series.
McMahon’s addition will be a huge boost to the Australian men’s team, who looked impressive in an unbeaten pool stage in Dubai but fell to Samoa in the quarter-finals.
The 25-year-old doesn’t lack experience in the sevens field, as he played two seasons with the Australian Men’s 7s Team between 2012 and 2014 before shifting across to Xvs (15s) and Super Rugby for Melbourne in 2014, and then debuting for the Wallabies in 2015.
Australia is pooled with Samoa, Kenya and Ireland in the Cape Town 7s.
The Cape Town 7s will be held from Saturday to Monday next week.
