Significant changes have been noted in Fiji’s economy in the last 50 years.
This was highlighted by Ministry of Agriculture Acting Permanent Secretary, Uraia Waibuta while launching the International Year of Soil at Holiday Inn today.
Waibuta said they have moved away from depending heavily on sugar and other agriculture commodities as the main foreign exchange earner.
He said now the country is depending more on tourism, mining and forestry.
Waibuta said that the theme ‘Healthy Soil for a Healthy Life’ is self-explanatory as we need healthy soil to achieve food and nutritional security.
