For the first time in nearly twenty years Qantas has begun direct flights from Sydney to Nadi.

This is in time for the April school holidays.

Qantas Airlines says the direct service will operate four times a week to Nadi with a Boeing 737 aircraft to meet the growing demand from customers wanting a premium travel option to the islands.

It says the flights adds to Jetstar’s direct services which also operate four times a week and will see the Qantas Group offer customers more than 75,000 seats on the route annually and the choice to fly to the popular holiday destination six days a week.

Qantas flight QF101 arrived in Nadi yesterday afternoon.

Qantas Executive Manager, Sales and Distribution, Igor Kwiatkowski, who travelled on today’s inaugural service, says the new flights were a win for the more than 365,000 Australians who travel to Fiji each year.

Kwiatkowski says they have seen a significant increase in demand for premium holidays to Fiji which is why Qantas is returning after nearly twenty years.

He says part of this growth has been driven by a wave of new and refurbished luxury properties having opened up on the islands in recent years.

Fiji Airports Communications and Public Relations Manager, Christopher Chand, says they are delighted to see the Flying Kangaroo back in Nadi after almost 20 years and they are looking forward to working with Qantas to grow Australian tourism numbers for the benefit of the Fijian economy.

Qantas will also continue to codeshare on Fiji Airways’ services to Nadi, with Fiji Airways now integrated as a oneworld connect partner.
