Two of the accused at the Suva Magistrates Court.

One of the five men charged in relation to an incident where Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald received injuries while trying to stop a robbery at the Distill outlet in Flagstaff last Thursday has been handed a prison sentence for another offence.

Mosese Tarau, who is charged with one count of robbery at Namadi Heights, has been sentenced to 4 years in jail.

Tarau will also be appearing in court for other pending cases.

Meanwhile, the fifth suspect in relation to the robbery at the Distill outlet Uate Baleiono appeared yesterday afternoon.

Baleiono is charged with five counts of aggravated robbery in Suva and one count of the act to cause grievous bodily harm.

He allegedly threw a wine bottle at Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald.

The other suspects, Jeke Vakararawa, Tevita Qaqanivalu and Seremaia Mudura, who are charged with six counts of aggravated robbery, one count of theft of a motor vehicle and one count of the act with intent to cause grievous harm, also appeared in court today.

They have other pending cases which the police are still investigating.

They will reappear in court this Friday.

Meanwhile, a woman tried to hand over a contraband item to one of the accused in the court room.

She was removed from the court room and taken in for questioning.
