Five remand prisoners are on the run after escaping from the Suva Courthouse.

Police Chief Operations Officer, ACP Maretino Qiolevu has now confirmed that Emosi Baledrokadroka, Niko Talemaitoga, Maika Tovagone, Suliano Rokosuka and Jonacani Saliva escaped from the Suva Courthouse Cell Block yesterday afternoon.

The five are facing charges for their alleged involvement in separate aggravated robberies and are considered to be high risk.

Qiolevu says a taskforce is currently searching for the five escapees and members of the public are reminded that it is a criminal offence to harbour prisoners.

Meanwhile an investigation has been directed to look into the circumstances surrounding the escape of the five from Police custody.

We have raised the question with the Police on how five people can escape from a cellblock and how many Police Officers were on guard.

Police say the investigation is looking into all these issues and further comments will be made later.

Please call Crime Stoppers on 919 if you have any information regarding the whereabouts of the five escapees.
