The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is assuring all parents, families and friends of students in Bangalore, India that they are safe.

This follows sporadic attacks on foreign students in and around Bangalore as the result of an accident involving an African student.

India Today reports that African students have been targeted in Bangalore after some Sudanese nationals were involved in a hit and run case resulting in the death of a woman over the weekend.

The Fiji High Commission in New Delhi is liaising with the relevant authorities in India to monitor the situation.

A total of nine students are currently studying at the Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies.
