The Fiji Roads Authority will make a small roundabout near the entrance of the Rups Big Bear’s major shopping and cinema complex in Nakasi.
FRA’s CEO, Jonathan Moore says they are trying to have this done by mid next month and will be a temporary exercise.
He says there is no need for a traffic light in the temporary stage.
Moore says another big development will soon be carried out by Hansons Supermarket Limited and there is also a large residential development taking place as well which are very close to the Rup’s Complex.
He says their engineers are looking for a final traffic solution which will take into consideration all the major developments in the Nakasi area.
Major traffic congestion has been witnessed outside the Rup’s complex in Nakasi where motorists going in and coming out of this complex have been seen waiting for long in queues.
Some near misses have also been witnessed where accidents could have occurred.
Meanwhile, Rups Big Bear’s Director Sheren Kumar had earlier told us that they have contributed a considerable amount of money to the FRA towards the installation of proposed traffic lights at the site.
When questioned on the issue, Jonathan Moore says he believes a payment was made to the FRA.
He says if a developer constructs a shopping mall in an area which had nothing before, then the developer is affecting the nature of how the roads work and the developer will have to make a contribution.
Moore says developers are making profits through their complexes and its only fair they contribute for roads.
