A driver has escaped serious injuries after hitting an electric post along Khalsa road this morning.
The accident resulted in the electric post falling onto the road.
Divisional Fire Officer Central and Eastern Division Timoci Nakaruru who is at the scene said the driver allegedly lost control of his car which resulted in him hitting the electric post.
Nakaruru is also advising motorists to find alternative routes as the upper part of Khalsa road is closed.
No time frame has been given on when the electric post will be removed as the National Fire Authority and the Fiji Electricity Authority are at the scene.
Nakaruru said the fallen electric post has also caused power cuts in areas like Khalsa road, Newtown, Valelevu, Caubati, Tamavua and Cunningham.
Meanwhile, Police say they are currently questioning the driver as no other passengers were in the car.
