Minister for Health Dr Neil Sharma

The Minister for Health Dr Neil Sharma has apologized if comments made in regards to an incident involving a pregnant woman in Labasa seemed abrupt or uncaring.

Sharma said I want to point out to every Fijian that the advisories they issue are for one single purpose; to save lives.

He added that they recognize that there might be circumstances preventing her from travelling to the Labasa Hospital but they reiterate that it is important that these advisories are taken seriously to avoid any complications.

It was reported that the young woman was advised to present herself early at the Labasa hospital after doctors noticed that she was in early stages of delivery.

Despite the advice given, the woman presented herself to the health centre instead of the hospital the day after.
