The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji has temporarily waived import requirements for all animal and food products that are currently allowed into Fiji to facilitate relief aid to assist Fijian families in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Winston.
BAF Executive Chairman, Xavier Riyaz Khan has warned that this waiver is strictly for relief rations coordinated through DISMAC and excludes any consignments imported into the country for commercial sale.
Khan says all animal products imported for relief purposes should be verified by Biosecurity Authority of Fiji Animal Technical Section personnel, the country of origin, brand name, the ingredients must be identifiable from the packaging and the integrity of packaging must be intact.
He says the animal products which are of low risk will be released under supervision of authorised Biosecurity Authority personnel.
He adds all exempted plant and animal products will still undergo 100 per cent inspection at the Fijian border and all mandatory biosecurity treatments.
BAF would like to advise people to contact BAF’s Trade Facilitation and Compliance Team on 3312512 extension 185 and 182 for any further information or clarification.
