“Question Time in Parliament is a very important part in the Parliament system.”
This is the comment made by the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Bronwyn Bishop during the opening of the Fiji Parliamentarians Forum at Sigatoka earlier this week.
Bishop said Question Time allows Members of Parliament to question executives.
She added that the parliament is not a classroom but more of a battlefield but we have given up guns, swords and fists and now fight with words.
Bishop stressed that having a committee system is also important as it allows Members of Parliament to investigate issues and travel around the country to interact with the members of the public.
Bishop returned to Australia yesterday.
